Hypetape is a new and improved way of creating and sharing digital mixtapes. Our playlist building service is unique because it allows users to do an "artist search" which scans the vast community of .mp3 bloggers for music tracks. With a single click, users have the option of streaming the song or adding it to a playlist. Hypetape's playlist interface is easy to navigate and just as easy to share because each playlist has its own designated URL.
As suggested by its name, Hypetape is a union between two music sharing websites that have made an impression on us: .mp3 blog aggregator The Hype Machine and simple, intuitive playlist creation website Muxtape. The marriage of the elements of these two sites has led to a dynamic, streamlined experience where playlist building and .mp3 search functions can be performed simultaneously. Hypetape's many features include: the ability to rename playlists and the tracks within, reorder the tracks of each playlist and even add a friend's song to one's own playlist. If the the link to a .mp3 track happens to break our smart search engine will remove the broken link from future searches.
What is the significance of the name "Hypetape"?
The name of our service is a kind of hat tip to the websites that helped inspire us. The Hype Machine was the first.mp3 blog aggregator of its kind and Muxtape was perhaps the first playlist streaming site that utilized a clean, basic & elegant site layout.
Are Hypetape's tracks sourced from The Hype Machine?
No. Despite the similarity of the two names, Hypetape sources its music tracks directly from the .mp3 blogs that they are found on. However, Hypetape and The Hype Machine perform searches on several of the same .mp3 blogs.
How do I search for a track by song title or album?
In its current form Hypetape only allows users to search by artist name. In most cases, this method will retrieve the track the user is searching for. Come back to check our Recent News & Updates, though, because our developers have a "song title" search function in the works.
